How many loans can I add for free? ▾

➕ Adding Loans
How do I add a loan? ▾
Tap + Add Loan on the home screen. Enter the loan name, current balance, annual interest rate (APR), minimum monthly payment, and due date. Loan Buddy will calculate your estimated payoff date and total interest automatically.
Where do I find my loan's interest rate? ▾
Your interest rate (APR) is listed on your monthly loan statement, in your online lender portal, or in your original loan agreement. For credit cards, check the card's terms and conditions or your most recent statement.
Can I edit a loan after adding it? ▾
Yes. Open the loan, tap the ⋯ menu in the top right, then tap Edit Loan. You can update any field — balance, rate, payment amount, or due date. The payoff timeline will recalculate immediately.
💳 Recording Payments
How do I record a payment? ▾
Open the loan and tap Record Payment. Enter the payment amount and date. Loan Buddy will update the remaining balance, recalculate the payoff timeline, and log the payment in your history.
How do I record an extra payment toward principal? ▾
When recording a payment, enter an amount greater than your minimum payment. Toggle on Applied to Principal to designate the extra amount directly to your balance. This reduces your principal faster and saves you on interest.
Can I set up payment reminders? ▾
Yes. Go to Settings → Notifications → Payment Reminders. Choose how many days in advance you'd like to be reminded (1, 3, 5, or 7 days before your due date). Reminders can be set globally or customized per loan.
How do I view my full payment history? ▾
Open any loan and scroll down to Payment History, or go to Reports → Payment Log to see a complete history across all your loans, filterable by date range.
🧠 Payoff Strategies
What is the Debt Avalanche method? ▾
The Debt Avalanche directs any extra monthly payments to the loan with the highest interest rate first. Once that loan is paid off, you roll the payment amount to the next highest-rate loan. This method minimizes total interest paid — typically the mathematically optimal strategy.
What is the Debt Snowball method? ▾
The Debt Snowball focuses extra payments on the loan with the smallest balance first. Paying off smaller loans quickly creates psychological wins and momentum that keep you motivated. It may cost slightly more in interest, but many people find it easier to stick with.
How do I apply a payoff strategy in the app? ▾
Go to Strategies in the bottom navigation. Select Avalanche or Snowball, then enter how much extra you can pay each month. Loan Buddy will generate a prioritized payment plan showing exactly which loan to focus on each month.
🧮 Payoff Calculator
How does the Payoff Simulator work? ▾
On any loan's detail page, tap Payoff Simulator. Use the slider to adjust how much extra you'd pay per month. The chart updates in real time showing how the extra payment changes your payoff date and how much interest you'd save. It's a great way to find your motivation to pay more.
Can I see the full amortization schedule? ▾
Yes. On any loan, tap Amortization Schedule to see a month-by-month breakdown of every future payment — showing exactly how much goes to interest vs. principal each month until the loan is paid off.
🔒 Data & Privacy
Is my loan data stored securely? ▾
All data is stored on your device by default and encrypted in your personal iCloud or Google account if backup is enabled. We do not have access to your loan data — it stays within your account at all times.
Can I export my loan data? ▾
Yes. Go to Settings → Export Data → Export as CSV. The file includes all your loans, balances, payment history, and interest data — ready to open in any spreadsheet application.
How do I delete my account? ▾
Visit our Account Deletion Guide for step-by-step instructions. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.
💳 Billing & Subscription
How do I upgrade to premium? ▾
Go to Settings → Subscription → Upgrade to Premium. Premium is available as a monthly or annual plan — the annual plan offers significant savings. Payment is processed through the App Store or Google Play.
How do I restore a previous purchase? ▾
Go to Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchase. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you used when you first purchased. If restoration fails, contact us and we'll help resolve it.
How do I cancel my subscription? ▾
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store or Google Play — not within the app itself. On iPhone: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions. On Android: Google Play → Subscriptions. Your premium access continues until the end of the current billing period.
